NEW SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY. In the skin microbiome, the bacteria responsible for blemishes are composed of several subtypes called phylotypes. Research has shown that a lack of diversity between phylotypes and a predominance of the IA1 phylotype are associated with the proliferation of blemishes and the severity of acne.
